Glazed

Glazed

After a short absence due to final year uni assignments, which I’d like to add are DONE FOREVER, I return to you today with a wonderful new find in Brighton – Glazed. Popping up about two weeks ago opposite The Level, Glazed is a coffee shop focused entirely on great coffee… and doughnuts. Gone are the days of tasteless icing and synthetic supermarket bought ring doughnuts! Well, in Brighton at least.

Glazed doughnuts

Doughnuts are fresh every day and made by the owner at Glazed, with vegan offerings and a changing variety of flavours. When we arrived just after 1pm, quite a lot had already sold out. Today we were presented with peanut butter, chocolate and coconut, lemon glazed with edible glitter and cinnamon sugar. Drinks-wise you’ll find a coffee menu, small selection of teas and a range of soft drinks with a cayenne chilli kick! By the way it totally works, we tried mango, ginger and cayenne.

So these doughnuts are next level ring doughnut. Ridiculously moreish to the point I was wiping any trace of icing from the plate and licking my finger. And then my boyfriend’s plate. What’s more, they make a perfect accompaniment to coffee, which I guess goes without saying. But I realised today that I’d never actually enjoyed coffee and doughnuts together, which seems wrong considering the countless pop culture references and fact that “Coffee and doughnuts” has its own Wikipedia page… Anyway, the coffee here is delicious too and wonderfully silky, made using espresso beans from Hove based Pharmacie.

Glazed is small inside but holds a few tables, window seating, a bench and a little space out the front to sit. More importantly, the vibe as soon as we entered was laid-back and friendly, and it was a great spot to hang out.

Third place thoughts? Well coffee, doughnuts, friendly vibe and great location… it’s a bit of a no brainer, really. I’m really looking forward to seeing how this place gets on because it seems to have got off to a great start, and I’m already thinking about what flavours I might see in there next!

Glazed’s owner runs a beautiful Instagram, which you can check out here.
